Fabia Mantwill

BIO

Berlin-based composer, conductor, saxophonist, and vocalist Fabia Mantwill creates large-scale works that merge jazz, contemporary classical, and orchestral storytelling. At the center of her work is the Fabia Mantwill Orchestra, a genre-crossing ensemble that expands the possibilities of the modern orchestra.

Her latest album IN.SIGHT (2025, GroundUp Music) has been praised as a force for modern music (Blue in Green, UK) and a visionary leap into the future of orchestral sound (Paris-Move). Featuring artists such as Anat Cohen and Kurt Rosenwinkel, the record marks a deeply introspective chapter in Mantwill’s work. It follows her debut EM.PERIENCE (2021), which introduced her distinctive, expansive sound world.

Mantwill is an awardee of the GERMAN JAZZ PRIZE 2021 for arrangement of the year and was nominated in 2026 again for Album of the Year and Large Ensemble of the Year. She has collaborated with leading ensembles including the WDR Big Band, the Metropole Orkest (NL), the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, the Orquestra Sònica (ESP), the Radio Jazz Group (SWE) and her work has been performed by orchestras and radio big bands across Europe. She is the artistic director of the Berlin Youth Jazz Orchestra since 2022.

Her music has been presented at renowned venues and festivals such as the Elbphilharmonie, Apollo Theater, and Kennedy Center, as well as Jazz Baltica and XJAZZ.

Mantwill’s work combines precision with openness, bringing together composition and improvisation in a dynamic, collaborative sound that continues to redefine the contemporary orchestral landscape.
