China Moses

BIO

Singer, songwriter and producer China Moses evolves her artistry in truth.

Defiantly real, her music resists what so many labels and critics desire: category. She captivates listeners with her deep pocket, sensitivity and wit, drawing inspiration from endless styles in the expansive lineage of Black American music.

“She commands the stage from the moment she makes her entrance” — The Times UK

Frank and fearless, China’s songs document fleeting emotional states and extended narratives, often leaning into self-reflection both in lyric and phrasing. Her voice is a satin ribbon wrapped around a crackling flame. Listeners fortunate to observe her in live performance know the depth of her song interpretation. In a moment she can revolve a world.

She has released seven albums, including This One’s for Dinah (Blue Note), Crazy Blues (Verve)—named one of the Top 100 albums of 2013 by The Times UK—and Nightintales (MPS). Her latest, it’s complicated… (2025 MIC Productions), exists only on vinyl, CD, and cassette—a deliberate choice prioritizing intentional listening and human connection over algorithms. As a live artist first, China wants to see people in person at a time when we see each other more through screens.

China also hosts radio shows on TSF Jazz (France), Jazz FM (UK), and East Village Radio (NYC), making her one of few women of color to broadcast across multiple continents.

Los Angeles born, Paris raised, and a true global artist, China has performed over 800 shows across six continents—her original compositions with symphony orchestras, big bands, and her own ensemble gracing stages from Ronnie Scott’s to the Royal Albert Hall, from the Elbphilharmonie to Blue Note Tokyo, from La Cigale to Birdland. In 2023, she was knighted in the French National Order of Merit for her contributions to cultural diplomacy and community building.
